Eat Less to Lose Weight

With all the new advances in nutrition and exercise research it seems to be a contradiction that obesity and over weight is on the rise in North America. It's pretty clear that we know more now than we ever did about how to eat properly and how to exercise for weight loss and overall health. research in nutrition and exercise shown us exactly what we need to do to lose weight, get into great shape, and stay that way? If science has progressed in these fields of research, why hasn't it resulted in a more fit, healthy, and slimmer population?

The truth is that the opposite is happening to the population. The percentage of overweight, obese and unhealthy adults is rising right along side our scientific knowledge of how to fight it. What is even more alarming is the rise in the percentage of overweight and obese children. We are teaching our children our bad habits.

This is sending a pretty clear message to me. The information we get from scientific research is not reaching the general population. Or more accurately, the message isn't being supported enough by government and industry in our daily routines.

For example: Science would dictate that you should eat modest portions of whole foods, with plenty of fruits and vegetables as a staple of a healthy diet. The reality is that most of us can find half a dozen fast food restaurants within 5 minutes of our houses that are offering us the exact opposite of what we know we should be eating. Even more troubling is the fact that if everyone actually tried to eat the daily recommend amount of fruits and veggies there wouldnt be enough to go around. Author and acclaimed nutrition researcher Marion Nestle points out in her book What to Eat that the north American food supply of fruits and veggies doesnt even add up to the daily recommend amount for each person. The food industry will only produce the food they know they can sell. And we as a population just dont buy that much produce.

The repeated and relentless marketing messages to eat more we receive on a daily basis can overpower most of our better intentions when it comes to making food decisions.

The one message you will never hear from the food industry is eat less. However almost all diet studies that show any significant amount of weight loss have one thing in common: the people in the study consumed less calories.

This is the paradox. Science tells us to lose weight we need to eat less. But the food industry which surrounds us every day is telling us to eat more. And the voice of the food industry is much louder than the voice of science. Just think of how many fast food restaurants, convenience stores, radio and tv commercials, flyers, coupons and other food ads you are exposed to in a day. Then think of how many daily messages you get reminding you to eat a sensible diet with moderate portions and whole foods.

Its not a fair fight, and I dont have to tell you which side usually wins in the battle for your attention. Look no further than the rising obesity, overweight, diabetes and heart disease rates and you have your answer.

food manufacturers and restaurants know how to push your buttons and entice you to purchase their products, and lots of them too, this is unlikely to change any time soon. It will always be your personal challenge and responsibility to choose to eat less in a society that will forever continue to tell you to eat more.

Ways to Improve your Wireless Network

The convenience of remaining constantly connected to your business, family and friends on the Internet has revolutionized our lifestyle. The flexibility offered by devices like laptops and desktops can be enhanced considerably by connecting them in a wireless network. The network becomes more effective if you can extend its range.

How Is Wireless Communication Accomplished: wireless notebooks use three major wireless data standards in order to transfer data.

Wi-Fi or 802.11b or wireless fidelity transfers data wirelessly at a maximum rate of 11Mbps up to a distance of 150 feet. It uses the 2.4GHz radio spectrum and has three channels. These are enough bandwidth for high speed Internet, gaming and most file transfers. A 802.11a or the A version of Wi-Fi, uses 5GHz radio spectrum, has 8 channels. It permits larger file transfers, at a maximum of 54Mbps.
Hybrid 802.11a/b/g is a tri-mode wireless system, capable of 54Mbps using 2.4GHz spectrum and is compatible with 802.11b devices. Fujitsu Lifebook N6010 has this tri-mode wireless system.
3G EV-DO or Verizon wireless is truly futuristic wireless Internet, devoid of any lines or cables and can be used anywhere in the world. It has a download speed of 400 to 700 kbps and bursts up to 2Mbps.

Any computer can be made wireless by using a wireless router and a wireless adaptor. Some notebooks and computers have Bluetooth module, to establish wireless communication with cell phones or other computers or stereos or headphones.

Security Safeguards: Safeguards need to be taken to prevent unwanted access to your wireless network, whether in home, offices, airports or hotels. The two basic security methods are:

The mac (Media access Control) is a unique hardware identifier given to each device in the network. You have to manually enter a list of addresses that can access your wireless network.
The WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) requires shared key between users to encrypt and de-encrypt data that is transmitted between your network users.

Tips for improving your Wireless network:

Place the router in a central location of home/office, off floor, away from walls and metal objects.
Replace router antenna by upgrading to a hi-gain antenna that focuses the wireless signals in direction you need mo st.
Replace the computers wireless network adapter with a usb network adapter, which adds external hi-gain antenna to your computer for improved range. Laptops with in-built antenna do not require change of adapter.
Add wireless repeater halfway between your wireless access and computer to instantly boost signal strength.
Change your wireless channel through routers configuration page to improve signal strength, as it will automatically detect new and clearer channel for the same.
Reduce wireless interference by using a 5.8GHz cordless phone or 900MHz frequencies. Avoid 2.4GHz frequency electronics as they drown the signal of your router.
Update your firmware or network adapter driver to improve the performance and reliability of the adapter. Single vendors offer twice the boost up on their own hardware e.g. D-Link has 108G enhancement.
Upgrade 802.11a/b devices to 802.11g as they are five times faster.

There are many ways to upgrade your wireless network. It will make your functioning easier and convenient.

Improving Your Golf Score

To quickly lower the scores you post I suggest that you first improve your thinking, both as you practice as well as when you play.

Improve your thinking in your practice by getting a better concept of what it is you want the body to do as you hit the ball. Improve your play by practicing the scoring shots from 50 yards in as you simultaneously train your body to hit these easy swinging shots more perfectly.

Improve your thinking on the golf course by being realistic in planning your shot so that every shot you play is easily within your capabilities. Perhaps this means not hitting a driver where there is even a small chance of having it get you in the kind of trouble that you could not easily get out of. Perhaps dropping down to a fairway wood could still get you into the same trouble? In that case why not hit the club that you are absolutely, positively sure that will not get you into trouble. Why not use the same thought pattern on your approach shots, play safe predictable shots and lower your scores by thinking in a chess player manner.

You may be surprised to find that 2 5 irons will get you to within 50 yards of most par 4s and perhaps on to the greens of the shorter ones. If you study my ezine articles on the short game and use the short game actions to program your full swing you may be surprised to find how good you can get from 50 yards in.

Perhaps laying up short of the green and chipping on when you would have to hit the ball very well to stay clear of a lake or a menacing bunker. If you chip and pitch as well as I want you to you will still have a good chance of getting a par or even a birdie.

Thinking is the key to this game, improve your thinking and you will improve your play.
